Avocado Plant

I love avocados, and luckily they are omnipresent in southern california.  I thought it would be even better if I have my own avocado tree.  I tried growing one last year, but the seeds never germinated after several weeks, so I abandoned the project.

This year we’ve been buying bags of avocados from Costco, and for some reason some of the seeds were already sprouting roots inside the fruit, which was perfect.

Over the course of a month…

At this point, the stem is poking out from the second seed (see last picture).

Time to transfer to soil.

Will eventually have to transfer this outdoors.  Hopefully I can keep this alive, and we’ll be able to harvest the fruit in about 7-15 years.
