By-The-Wind Sailors

Summer is winding down, the crowd in LB is thinning, and J&I decided to venture down to the beach for the 3rd time this year.  We got to don our newly purchased swimsuits before the season is over.

J’s not one to buy new things unless absolutely necessary.  He’s had his old swimming trunks for 15 years, and had it not been for the fact that I told him it looks hideous, he would have hung onto it.

J looks like a sea creature draped in kelp.

J looks like a sea creature draped in kelp.

I just couldn’t look at it anymore and bought him a new pair of board shorts.

Now he looks like he belongs on a California beach.

Now he looks like he belongs on any California beach.

He was walking back excitedly to show me something he’d found.  What he had in his hand was a by-the-wind sailor.

A velella velella.

A velella velella.

We had just read about these little creatures last week, and got to see it in person today.  These hydrozoans live out in the open sea, and humans rarely see them unless they get blown ashore.

DOES MY BROTHER HAVE 6PACKS?!!! What has he been doing?! he looks like a little kid holding that jelly fish… hahaha cute.

    • LY says:

Your brother has had a 6-pack for as long as I’ve known him. He does Brazilian Jiujitsu and works with a personal trainer at his company’s gym.
      BTW, it’s not a jelly fish 🙂

oh what is it? they said jelly fish like creatures. uhhhh it wasn’t that defined back then. I’ve seen him without 6 packs before. = 1

    • LY says:

It’s a hydrozoan – similar to a coral, but people describe it as jellyfish like because it has that appearance.

He says he’s had a 6-pack since he was a teenager. I can only take his word for it. But, it is a lot more defined now because of the type of exercise he’s doing, and that he’s eating less meat.
