What Sisters Are For…

They’re for a lot of things, but one of them is to save you from another ‘tofu’ dinner.

Sure it was my birthday, and it’s really No. Big. Deal, but I would at least expect to hear a ‘Happy Birthday’ from the husband (and a traditional steak dinner at home).  As we’re running our 8+ miles this morning, I thought, ‘He hasn’t said anything, maybe later.’  But as the emails and phone calls from various people came in wishing me ‘Happy Birthday’ throughout the day, I had yet to hear from J.  I wasn’t going to remind him as I wanted to see when he was going to realize.  As evening slowly approached, V called:

V: Happy Birthday…Are you having steak?

Me: Thanks.  I don’t even think he remembers.  But someone’s going to be in big trouble.

Half an hour later,

J: I thought you were going to Whole Foods to get steak.

Me: Why would I do that?

J: It’s your birthday.  Happy birthday.

Me: You finally remembered.

J: I forgot because of this morning’s tough run.

I knew better, and I knew someone tipped him off.

{While J was cooking the steak}

Me: So who reminded you?

J: Your sister.

Me: I knew it.

So V, thanks for the steak dinner.

During dinner, one of my best friends called, and while on the phone with her J managed to devour half of the dessert, and left me with this wreckage.

Ladies and gentlemen.  This is what happens after 8.5 years of marriage.  He forgets your birthday, and he eats the cake before you get a chance to finish your dinner.

Well, at least he cooked…
